10 класс Монолог NORILSK
I live in Norilsk and I was born here. It is my home town. Norilsk
is a large town. It is situated on the 69 parallel in the zone of perma
frost in Taimyr tundra. Norilsk was founded by a group of geologists with professor Urvantsev at the head. The town of Norilsk has been
built on Taimyr in Soviet times.
People call it the pearl of Arctic. The population of Norilsk is more than 200 thousand citizens. Norilsk is the industrial, cultural and scien –
tific centre of the Arctic. It is the town of miners, metallurgists, builders, power speciallists and transport workers. There are many factories, quarries and iron mines in Norilsk. The output of the Norilsk Mining Company is well known far beyond the borders of our country all over
the world. It is famous for non-ferrous metallurgy. Such metals as cop-per, nickel, cobalt are produced in the town of Norilsk.
Norilsk, built in record time, has many blocks of modern buildings. Buildings are erected on piles, 1 m above the permafrost layer. There
are many schools, libraries, hospitals and shops.
Norilsk is also famous for its drama theatre. The houses have all modern convenienses.
People say that Norilsk is St.Petersburg in miniature.
The Palace of Culture, swimming-pool, the Arctica sport palace, beautiful squares attract people’s attention.
The residents of Norilsk are nature lovers. They have built many recreation areas. They are situated not far fron Norilsk in the hills and people often go out of town to have rest there.
There are a lot of beautiful lakes not far from Norilsk. They are Lama, Glubokoye, Melkoye and others.
Skiing, foot-ball are very popular in our town. Taimyr is called the
land of surprises and it is true. Norilsk is the pearl of this land and I
am proud of the town and of the people that work and live in it.
April,12 - the Cosmonauts Day
The history of cosmonautics has two heroes - man and space.
The idea of interplanetary flights was born many centuries ago. It was explored even in ancient times by writers and scholars in their works. It was in 1929 that Konstantin Tsiolkovsky became the first to prove mathematically the feasibility of interplanetary travels in multistage rockets.
By official reckoning the space age began on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union placed Sputnik 1 into orbit as the first artificial satellite. And the United States entered space with its first artificial satellite. Explorer 1, on January 31, 1958.
Man and Space... The 12th of April 1961 has gone down forever in the annals of our planet. On that day a human being left his native Earth for the first time and went out into The Universe. The first man in space was Major Yuri Gagarin of the Soviet Union. In his Vostok spaceship he orbited the Earth in 90 minutes and made only one turn around the Earth. But this exciting fact became the first of the entire history of human achievements.
In 1969 Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin in their spaceship Apollo П landed on the Moon. They were the first who reached the surface of the Moon.
Fifty years separate us from the first successes in man's travel into space. But the conquest of space continues. Both Manned and unmanned space flights have been performed during the space age. Scientific, technological and medical experiments connected with them are of great significance for the exploration of our world, the Solar system, and the Universe. We know that the road to a deep understanding of nature's mysteries is long and hard. But now that we have set out along it, we shall never turn back.

"Sports in Our Life"
Sport is very important in our life. It is popular among young and old people.
Many people do morning exercises, train themselves in clubs and in different sections and take part in sport competitions.
Other people like sports too, but they only watch sports games, listen to sports news.
Physical training is an important subject at school. We have got physical training lessons three times a week. Boys and girls play volley-ball and basket-ball at the lessons.
Sport helps people to keep in good health. The proverb says: “Good health is above wealth”.
People must take care of their health and do morning exercises regularly.
There are summer and winter sports.
Popular kinds of sports in our country: football, volley-ball, hock¬ey, gymnastics, skiing, skating.
My favourite sport is swimming.
9 класс Монолог "TV or not TV?"
Television plays a very important role in our life. It's a wonderful source of information and one of the best ways to spend free time. Television viewing is the most popular leisure pastime. It's not surprising, because TV channels show a great variety of programmes: documentaries and current affairs programmes, feature films and comedies, soaps and police series, concerts and talk shows.
Television gives you an opportunity to travel all over the world, to see different people and to learn about their customs and traditions. A lot of people usually relax wat-ching soaps. I don't think that they show life realistically.
Of course, not everything shown on TV is made in good taste. There are badly-written programmes that con¬tain bad language and violence. Another thing I would like to complain about is smoking. It makes young people take up smoking themselves.
Many people admit that the quality of television could be better. One reason for the poor quality of programmes is advertising. Some people find ads silly and boring, though television companies get most of their money from advertising.
Some people say that television is a waste of time. But if we watch TV for an hour a day, to find out what is happening in the world or to relax, then television is really useful. We only must know how to make the best use of it.
11 класс Монолог “ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS”
1. I'm... , and I'd like to draw your attention to ecological problems as I see them.
2. First I'm going to give some general information about the damage to our habitat, then I'll focus on the ecological problems of our country and finally I’ll talk about a possible solution to the existing problems.
3. It is common knowledge that envi¬ronment is vitally important for people to live and be healthy.
4. Man's habitat includes air, water and land.
5. Over the years of technological revolution, we have experienced various kinds of environment pollution, destruction of the ozone layer, global warming, green house effect and other phenomena that aggravate the ecological situation.
6. Examples are numerous all over the world, and Norilsk is no exception here.
7. The interven¬tion in the nature balance resulted in disap¬pearance of many species of birds and animals.
8. Gas emission in cities is polluting the air and has caused a sharp rise of lung diseases and asthma among the population.
9. Uncontrolled pollution of rivers and lakes by industrial enterprises has damaged water resources in Russia.
10. But of course the major ecological disaster in the country happened in 1986 after the explosion of the Chernobyl nu¬clear power station.
11. As much as 70 percent of all the radiation fell on land, water and people.
12. The aftermath effect of Chernobyl is very serious indeed.
13. As you probably know, there is an increase of cancer cases in Belarus and the Ukraine, especially among children.
14. In my opinion, joint efforts of the government and public organiza¬tions to improve the ecological situation are of vital importance.
15. It's good that people have come to understanding that environment and Man as part of it can be saved by concrete measures.
16. Strict control over gas emission, water treatment are just a few measures that are already taken.
17. People need to be aware of what they personally can do to keep envi¬ronment clean.
18. In this context, I think a broad cam¬paign on recycling paper, plastic, glass and metal -just like it is done in the West - is a good thing to introduce on a national scale. 19. It goes without saying that eco¬nomic and ecological problems are interrelated, and with¬out radical economic reforms we will hardly improve the environment, so the solution of the existing problems is our common task.
